Easy Steps for a Green Christmas!
(Your tree will thank you!)
If you plan to store the tree for several days, make a straight cut across the butt end of the tree about one inch from the end to open the tree stem so it can drink water. Store the tree upright and place with the cut end in a container of water.
When you bring the tree into the house, make a fresh cut across the trunk about an inch from the original cut. Make sure you have a tree stand that holds plenty of water.
Fresh trees are very thirsty and can drink up to four litres of water/day! Be sure to keep checking and supply fresh water as needed. If the water level is to drop below the bottom of the tree, a seal will form on the bottom of the trunk which inhibit the tree from taking in water.
Place your tree away from fireplaces, heating units, electronics and other sources of heat. If you turn off the tree lights when you are not enjoying the tree it will reduce heat on the branches and save energy too!
Check all electric lights and connections. Do not use lights with worn or frayed cords and never use lighted candles on a Christmas tree.
Remember that by buying your tree from our u-pick you have supported local Nova Scotia small business! Thank you and hope to see you again next year!
